Cathy’s 100k Challenge

We are delighted to introduce someone who we have been lucky enough to get to know very well over the last few years: Cathy Quilter from Causeway in Kerry. Cathy is no stranger to the bright yellow t-shirt of Friends of A, but we’ll let her tell you herself about what’s coming up next…

On August the 6th I have decided to take on the Tralee 100k Ultra Marathon.  This will be my biggest challenge to date and I want to do this one for Friends of A.

I came across Friends of A in October 2014 while training for my very first marathon, the Dublin City Marathon. In 2013, two very close members of my family were struck with brain aneurysms and I felt I wanted to do something to help raise awareness of this terrible thing that can take your life in just seconds.  The support I received from Friends of A was amazing. I felt I had to give my own back and in doing so, proud to donate my first marathon medal to the memory of a very special person.

Since that special day I have ran 26 marathons, and just recently completed a 40 mile run in Tralee in preparation for this big one; the Tralee 100k Ultra Marathon. The race starts in the heart of Tralee, goes around North Kerry through different villages (including my own village, which makes it all the more special) and it carries us back into Tralee again. This will not be easy, but knowing I am doing it for something I believe in will make it bearable.

I have set up an online donation page, if you can donate I would greatly appreciate it as all funds go into research into brain aneurysms:

I would like to thank everyone in advance for your support and generosity and if anyone is passing through on the day, please give a big shout out!

Thank you,

Cathy Quilter xx
